Represented by Dr. Mohamed Mohieddin, Director of Family Research Division and Mr. Hamad Al Attyia, Senior Researcher, DIFI attended an expert group meeting in Amman from 11 to 14 May, 2014 on Multi-dimensional Poverty in Arab Countries.

The EGM was attended by representatives from ESCWA, UNICEF, academics, researchers and governmental and regional organizations experts in data collection and analysis and poverty issues.

The purpose of the meeting was to finalize the methodology for analyzing multidimensional poverty in the Arab World in order to adjust the Oxford Poverty and Human Development initiative (OPHI), which was constructed in the light of the experience of less developed countries (LDCs) to the conditions of Arab MICs and HICs.

In keeping with DIFI's guiding idea, “research to advance family policies", and its objective of contributing to the promotion of high-quality research on family issues, DIFI's Family Research Division Director presented thematic indices of Multi-dimensional Poverty on the elderly in the meeting and highlighted data requirements for analysis of the prevalence of poverty among specific age groups.
