Turyak, the Seniors’ Council Association in partnership with IFA (International Federation on Ageing), located in Toronto, Canada, one of the biggest international institutions of the world on ageing and the elderly, organized an International Congress on Intergenerational Solidarity. The International Istanbul Initiative on Ageing and EXPO50+ Istanbul Fair took place 4-6 October 2013 at the WOW Convention Center. The Congress consisted of over 370 experts from over 50 countries contributing through concurrent sessions, plenary panels and workshop

The delegates including Ms. Noor Al-Malki Al-Jehani of the Doha International Family Institute, Ms. Sally Susman, of Pfizer U.S.A. and Anne Connolly of the Ageing Well Network, Dublin made presentations in the Game Changers Plenary Panel. The panel discussed critically important issues that spoke to the bigger picture, the need to shift paradigms from status quo to innovation. Moreover, they highlighted disquiets such as gender and family roles and sustainability measures; and the concerns embedded within some volatile and uncertain economies.

In attendance were also members of the World Bank, the United Nations and international leaders including the H.E. Mrs. Fatma Sahin, Minister of Family and Social Policy and H.E. Mr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. Other international leaders made presentations to the Congress during plenary panels including Dr. Mohamad Youssef Al-Migariaf, former President of Libya, Mr. Petru Lucinschi, former President of Moldova and H.E. Dr. Maikibi Kadidiatou Dan Dobi, Minister of Population, Promotion of Women and Child Protection, Niger.

The Congress concluded on October 6, at which time a formal declaration relating to Intergenerational Solidarity was presented to all delegates.
