Objectives:

The workshop is intended to give participants a basic understanding of how the analysis of
qualitative and mixed methods data can benefit from existing software tools. It will Introduce the
use of software tools in qualitative research data analysis and demonstrate the various functions of MaxQDA software from preparing data to retrieving coded text and the application of MaxQDA to data collected by the Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI)

Outline:

The program is set up as an interactive workshop, using hands-on technical training with locally
relevant data and examples. The course will provide a brief overview of the types of qualitative
data, and analysis methods – both qualitative and quantitative – that can be carried out using
MaxQDA.

Structure:

9:00-9:30 Introductory concepts
An analysis of methods & types of qualitative data that can be used in MaxQDA

9:30-10:30
Introduction to the Basic MaxQDA features
The MaxQDA interface and four main windows

10:30-10:45 Coffee Break

10:45-12:00
Working with MaxQDA – Creating a New Project to code Text Data
12:00-01:00 Lunch Break

01:00-04:00
Working with MaxQDA – Practical
This portion of the workshop will include hands-on examples to allow participants to experience a variety of MaxQDA features.
